2D:
Game forcing
Responses
- 2H: 0-1 Controls
- 3C/D/H/S: Natural, 6+ suit or 5+5+ (with a 5-5 hand the opener bids his lower suit first. As he cannot be 5-4 this works perfectly well!!!)
- 2S: Any 4441, 5431 or 5440
- 3C/D/H/S: Transfer to the next suit with 5+ 1-suiter or 5+5+
(again with a 5+5+ the responder bids his lower suit as he cannot be
5-4)
- Accept transfer: 3+ fit, asking bid for trump quality (answers are similar to Josephine):
- 1st
step: A or K
- 2nd
step: Q or 7+ suit
- 3rd
step: 6+ suit
- 4th
step: Otherwise
- 5th
step: 2 top honors
- 3NT: 4441 with singleton in partner's suit
- New suit: 5 cards
- 2NT: Otherwise
- 3C/D/H/S: Transfer to opener's short suit
- 3NT: Sign-off
- Accept transfer: Otherwise
- 2NT: 24+ HCP, balanced
- 4C/D/H/S: Asking bid
- NT: 1 King
- Suit: No Kings, but cue-bid of
lowest Q
- Trump: No K, no Q
In the ensuing auction any new suit by opener is a Suit Asking bid.
- 2S: 2-3 Controls
- 2NT/3C/D/H: Transfer to a KQ10xxx or KQJxxx suit with nothing else
- 3S: 4+ Controls
- 3NT: AKQxxx suit with nothing else
When
opener re-bids 2NT the developments are as after 2NT
opening.
After 2D-2H-3-of-a-suit and 2D-2S-3-of-a-suit the responder will
frequently make the next available suit bid ("la collante") to allow the
opener to finish the description of his hand.
Note: the principle of fast
arrival applies after 2D-2S. For
example 2D-2S-3H-3NT-4H is stronger than 2D-2S-4H.
2D-3S-3NT is round-forcing initiating a Baron-type
bidding continuation.
When
his suit is raised, the opener can:
- Make the most economical
bid: Kickback asking responder to cue-bid his A/K and show his trumps honors.
- Trump suit: 0/3 trump honors, no side A/K
- Another suit (or NT for
the suit of the Kickback): 0/3 trump honors, cue-bid of the lowest
side A/K
- Jump in trump suit: 1 trump honor, no side A/K
- Jump in another suit (or
NT for the suit of the Kickback): 1 trump honor, cue-bid of lowest
side A/K
- Raise the suit of the kickback: 2 trump honors, no side A/K
- Double jump in trump suit: 2 trump honors and 1 side A/K
- Make another non-trump bid:
Asking for the A/K in that suit (or the suit of the Kickback with NT).
Responder can cue-bid an A/K below Trump suit or bid Trump as a negative.
Any higher bid shows the possession of the A/K that the opener is asking
for.
